Andrew and I are on Oahu right now, and I wanted to share this Oahu flooding travel update 2026 for anyone wondering what’s happening on the island.

Short version: travel to Oahu has been easy for us so far, and we personally haven’t seen any issues affecting our trip. Flights, driving, and getting around have all felt smooth, and nothing in our experience has made this feel like a trip to avoid.

That said, parts of the island – especially the North Shore – have dealt with serious flooding and some road closures, so it’s worth staying aware if you’re planning to explore beyond the main resort and city areas.

What We’ve Experienced So Far

From our perspective, Oahu has been very manageable. We’ve had no trouble getting around, and our trip has felt normal, enjoyable, and stress-free.

Side note: The only issue we’ve had? A slow leak in the rental car’s front passenger tire. They exchanged it immediately… for another car with the exact same issue on the same tire. Maybe it’s an Oahu thing! LOL. No big deal though – handled quickly.

If you’re coming to Oahu soon, that’s the biggest thing I’d want you to know: the island is still open, travel is still happening, and most visitors will likely be able to enjoy their trip without major disruption.

What’s Happening In The North Part Of The Island

We did hear about a road closure in the northern part of Oahu, and that matches what local reporting has confirmed. Recent flooding on the North Shore led to evacuation alerts and road closures, including impacted routes near Hale’iwa and other low-lying areas.

There was also an advisory for Kaukonahua Road, which is another reminder that conditions can change quickly depending on where you are on the island. For updates, check out the Hawaii DOT for Oahu Lane Closures.

What Travelers Should Keep In Mind

If you’re heading to Oahu, don’t let the headlines scare you off.

  • Check local traffic and weather updates before heading out.
  • Be flexible if you’re planning a North Shore drive.
  • Give yourself extra time if you’re venturing into areas that may still be recovering.
  • Don’t assume the whole island is affected – most of our experience has been smooth.
  • Always check local news – this update is as of March 29, 2026.
  • Be kind to the locals – they’re happy to welcome your dollars to keep the economy strong, but you never know where they live or how they’ve been impacted.
  • Comment on this Oahu flooding travel update 2026 if you have insights.

Our Honest Take

From where we are sitting, Oahu is still a great place to visit right now.

Yes, there has been flooding in parts of the island, and yes, some roads have been closed. But our own travel experience has been easy, and we haven’t personally run into anything that’s impacted our ability to enjoy the island.

Final call: As always, be a good traveler. Show kindness to the locals who make Hawaii special – they’re the heartbeat of these islands.

Aloha.
