If you’re heading to Oahu’s North Shore, you probably already have surfing, shave ice, and sunsets on your list. But there’s a newer experience worth adding: a tour at Haleiwa Distilling Company North Shore Oahu. Tucked inside the historic Waialua Sugar Mill, this place is part craft spirits operation, part community anchor, and 100% worth your time.
Andrew and I spent a week on Oahu and this stop ended up being one of our favorite moments of the whole trip.
About Haleiwa Distilling Company
Haleiwa Distilling Company North Shore Oahu is a newer operation nestled inside the historic Waialua Sugar Mill on Oahu’s North Shore. The setting alone is worth the visit. The old sugar mill has a character and history that you just don’t find at your typical tasting room, and the distillery fits right in.
What they’re building here is something genuine. This isn’t a polished tourist trap. It’s a real, working distillery with real people behind it, and that comes through the moment you walk in.
The Tour: Meet Kristin
We did the distillery tour with Kristin, and honestly, she made the whole experience. The tour itself had a nice balance of structure and spontaneity. She walked us through the operation, introduced us to one of the distillers, and gave us a chance to actually taste the product along the way.
Kristin was knowledgeable, funny, and genuinely patient with my 1,000 questions. She kept the energy light and fun without ever losing the thread of what she was teaching us. If you’re the kind of traveler who likes to understand the “how” and “why” behind what you’re tasting, this tour delivers.
We highly recommend it.

More Than a Distillery: Community in Action
The North Shore was recently hit hard by devastating floods. A lot of businesses and families in the area took a serious hit, and recovery has been a community effort.
Haleiwa Distilling has gone above and beyond to support their impacted neighbors. They haven’t just kept their doors open, they’ve shown up for the people around them. That kind of community commitment is something worth recognizing, and honestly, it’s another reason to spend your dollars here when you visit.
Don’t Skip the Food: Molina Surf Salsa

One of the businesses impacted by the floods was Molina Surf Salsa (www.surfnsalsa.com, Instagram: @surfnsalsa). They operate a food truck right at the distillery, and the food was outstanding.
Get the tacos. That’s really all we need to say. But we’ll add that the whole menu has that made-with-care quality that you remember long after you leave. Supporting them by eating there is one of the easiest decisions you’ll make all trip.
Tips for Your Visit
- Follow them on Instagram at @haleiwa_distilling_co for hours, events, and updates
- Book a tour if you can. The guided experience is worth it over just stopping in
- Pair it with lunch from the Molina Surf Salsa food truck on site
- The North Shore is a drive from Waikiki, so build in time to explore the area while you’re out there
- This is a newer operation, so expect things to grow and evolve. Getting there early in their journey is part of the fun
Final Thoughts
Haleiwa Distilling Company is the kind of place that reminds you why getting off the beaten path matters. Great product, a standout tour experience, delicious food next door, and a team that genuinely cares about their community. It checked every box for us.
If you’re planning a North Shore day, make this a stop. You won’t regret it.
